July
Greetings from Toronto, where the North-American efficiency mixed with the laid-back Canadian attitude is making me feel very much at home.
Summer seems to slow things down everywhere, which is absolutely fine with me. I have a pile of books which I’ve been meaning to read for AGES, and perhaps now this age has come. I’ve just finished Ian McEwan’s latest book, Solar. What can I say? I love McEwan’s writing, but this book is not his best one. However, it’s not a bad summer read as anything more meaningful might get evaporated in the current heat-wave anyway. Not that I want to get into a discussion about Global Warming here but I did learn a lot from this book – especially about construction of convincible, multi-dimensional characters.
Now I’ve FINALLY picked up a book everyone’s been raving about for the last few years, and I haven’t read yet. Nor seen the movie. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert is, so far, exactly what I was hoping for on a warm summer week.
Happy reading – hope you’re having a great summer so far!
