Books for young readers are awesome!
I never considered myself a big fan of young adult books, or YA as they are better known. I confess to have read Harry Potter (well, the first three volumes, then I gave up) and I did enjoy it, but I thought of it more like a book that was written for the children inside all of us.
However, very recently my friend Katie Hayoz published a YA novel titledUntethered and I wanted to read it because, well, my friend wrote it. What quite surprised me is that I couldn’t put it down. That is undoubtedly due to Katie Hayoz’s excellent writing, but also, because I realized that YA books are not actually what I thought they were.
This opened the door (and several windows) into a world that I wasn’t familiar with, as my three boys are not teenagers yet (although that day will arrive very quickly, no doubt). And I discovered not only a fascinating world but also one that teaches me a lot about people and what moves them.
And I became acquainted with some very cool young readers, or at least their blogs, such as Erika’s blog called Living for the Books which is truly awesome. She interviews writers, reviews their books and runs reading challenges, and guess what? She is only sixteen. People like her inspire writers to write the best books they can, and her blog is definitely worth a visit and a ‘like’. So today, my inspiration comes from the young readers out there, who are the adult readers of the future. Thanks for being there, in the blogosphere, and for writing about books. You’re awesome!
