Autumn Leaves
I’ve always wondered how do the Gods of Weather know it is September 1st? In this part of the world, come September, everything changes. The ripples on Lake Geneva are suddenly more pronounced, and the air smells of wet earth and coming frost.
Looking at the mountains in the distance, snow is suddenly visible, and it makes me think of burning logs and mulled wine. And burning logs and mulled wine are closely related to writing, aren’t they? Of course they are.
So as summer departs, so depart the excuses I’ve found over the past few weeks to be outdoors and engage in other wonderful activities than writing. Back to the desk, back to the keyboard, back to my imaginary friends and to my imaginary plots.
I do hope you enjoy whatever is left of summer and that you, like me, look forward to the cooler days to come.
And, if you happen to be in the Geneva area, please come to the launch of Offshoots 11, the 11th anthology of the Geneva Writers Group – which I’ve had the privilege to edit this time – together with two talented co-editors and friends, Mary Scheurer and Bob Piller. We’ll all be gathering at Webster University on Saturday, September 17th at 17h30, to raise a glass and read from the truly inspiring work of over fifty GWG members. Hope to see you there!
